THE DAILY THOT FOR FRIDAY, September 3

Winning with the Password

Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3

Remember the 1960s TV game show called "Password?" For seven years it was the hottest thing on television. Players, including celebrities, tried to get their partners to guess the secret password. Only one-word clues were allowed, and the action was fast and furious. The show was so popular, it was reprised in the 1970s, and many former fans now play the home edition.

"Password" brings up childhood images of secret words that gained us entrance to a tree house, an exclusive neighborhood club, or the No-Girls-Allowed bedroom sanctuary. But passwords are not only about game shows and rites of childhood passage. Jesus told a Jewish leader named Nicodemus that he would never see the kingdom of heaven unless he was . . . born again. Nicodemus, in his conversation with Jesus (John 3), was saying everything but the right thing. He knew all the religious words, the Old Testament ideas about the Messiah, and was a sincere seeker. But he didn't know "born again."

Fortunately, the password to heaven is no secret. Jesus told Nicodemus, and He is telling you. Have you been born again?  Click here to find out how you too can enter heaven.
